1. What is Longhorn Welcome?
Longhorn Welcome occurs just prior to the start of the fall semester with events happening every day from Aug. 20-Aug. 28, 2020. It features seven Signature Events such as Mooov-In, Gone to Texas, Find Your Way and more. These events are intended for incoming students to start creating connections to UT and to connect with other students. You can find out information about Longhorn Welcome Signature Events here: longhornwelcome.utexas.edu/signature-events. All events are virtual except Mooov-In which followed social distancing and health guidance.
There are also dozens of more campus events hosted be several university units, that will introduce you to academic resources, student involvement opportunities or campus highlights. They will be linked from the All Events tab on the Longhorn Welcome website.
2. Will Longhorn Welcome still take place even with COVID-19?
Yes, Longhorn Welcome will still place although in a different format from years’ past. Our number one priority is the health and safety of our UT community. New students will be able to connect to the majority of Longhorn Welcome events and programs virtually. Any events that may be held in person, will be in accordance with the university’s health and safety guidelines.
3. How can new students be safe on campus if we choose to participate in an on-campus event?
UT has created a plan to keep our Longhorn family healthy and safe on campus, and visitors to the campus are expected to follow the Health and Wellness guidelines established by the university. 4. How do I view the schedule for Longhorn Welcome?
You can access the full schedule of the Longhorn Welcome events in our Guidebook app at guidebook.com/g/longhornwelcome2020. The app will be available for download in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store on Aug. 10.
The event links to access the live events will be available on a UT EID-protected page which will be live on Aug. 20, 2020. You will need to have Duo set up, have an active UT EID and use your UTexas Zoom account to view the full details and participate in the virtual events. See the FAQ #5.
5. What will I need to participate in Longhorn Welcome?
1. Duo Authentication Set Up (Required for access to UT Austin platforms)
IMPORTANT FIRST STEP – For security purposes, the university requires that you setup Duo authentication in order to access all UT accounts such as MyStatus, MyUT, UTexas Zoom and Canvas. If you are receiving an error message that says “you are not enrolled due to the Multi-factor Duo Authentication,” you must set up Duo authentication.
Steps to Set Up Duo
- Once downloaded, click on bit.ly/utduo link.
- Log in using your UT EID and password.
- Follow the instructions to register your device.
- Download the Duo Mobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store to your device.
- When asked to pair your device using the Duo Mobile app, you can use either a QR code or code, both are provided during the registration process.

2. An Active UT EID
Obtaining a student ID card or upgrading your UT EID are done through the UT ID Center. Due to COVID-19, the ID Center has revised their processes. If you are an incoming student admitted by May 15 (including students under 18), your EID will be automatically upgraded on May 16. If your admission is completed between May 16 and June 2, your EID will be upgraded the day after it is recorded. All automatic upgrades will be valid through Sept. 26, 2020.

3. A UTexas Zoom Account
You will need an official UTexas Zoom account to participate in live virtual Longhorn Welcome events. Follow this link to set up Zoom on your mobile device or computer.
Some students experience trouble when trying to create their UTZoom account. If you have a personal account in Zoom, it automatically logs you into your personal account. If you encounter this, then you will need to click on your profile in Zoom, scroll down under the "Options" and select "Switch Account" to successfully set your UTZoom.
4. Longhorn Welcome App (optional)
You can access the full schedule of the Longhorn Welcome website in our Guidebook app at guidebook.com/g/longhornwelcome2020. The app will be available for download in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store on Aug. 10.
The event links to access the live events will be available on protected page which will be live on Aug. 20, 2020.
