Six weeks. Six weeks of check-in lines, campus tours in the blazing Texas heat, college meetings, advising appointments, dodgeball games, afternoons in the Longhorn Lounge, dinners at JCL, hilarious shows, dance parties and late nights spent talking with classmates and Orientation Advisors. Six weeks of fun and learning as we welcomed new Longhorns to the Forty Acres.
We made a lot of memories this summer: mostly sweet, some a little wet (thanks Tropical Storm Bill), but we shared them together as Longhorns. Here are the 10 most memorable moments from UT Orientation.
10. #TSBill closes UT
The Tuesday night of the second session of Freshman Orientation, Tropical Storm reared its ugly head and the university closed at 5 p.m. But during orientation, the show must go on! With a few last-minute modifications, we still had a fun (and in the end, not very stormy) night with #UT19.
9. Hook ‘Em plays the piano
We got to hang out with Hook ‘Em every Tuesday in the Longhorn Lounge. One day he busted out his impressive piano-playing skills. Hook ‘Em’s got talent – who knew?
8. OAs wear crazy outfits
From hula skirts to shiny canoe arms, our Orientation Advisors cracked us up all summer with their wacky getups.
7. Everyone finds the albino squirrel
The albino squirrel was popping up on all over campus…he was even in Burdine 106 a few nights! 😉 All the new Longhorns are in for a lucky semester.

6. New Longhorns show their #LonghornPride
We loved hearing everyone as they learned the UT cheers each week and shouted them at the top of their lungs. Y’all are ready for DKR!
5. Everyone gets down…and #turnsup
No matter the time of day, y’all were ready to show off your moves.
4. …and learns the whip
We’ll never forget the weekly whip lessons in the Longhorn Lounge. If you still don’t know how to do it, find OA (and whip guru) Josh Sherden in the fall! He’ll get you up to speed.
3. The Tower turns orange
On June 22, the Tower shined bright with a burnt-orange glow to celebrate former Texas golfer Jordan Spieth’s historic win at the U.S. Open. It was a special treat for students in #UT19 who were here for orientation!

2. Hook ‘Em gives hugs and takes selfies
That Hook ‘Em. Between his dance skills and his virtuoso piano abilities, he’s the most well-rounded mascot you’ll ever meet. He also gives great hugs and takes perfect selfies, and isn’t afraid to hop on the dodgeball court and show everyone how it’s done. Orientation wouldn’t have been the same without him!
1. New Longhorns get into the #LonghornStateofMind
By far, the best part of orientation was seeing all the new Longhorns find their #LonghornStateofMind! We can’t wait to see you back here in the fall…and we know you can’t wait to get back to your new home!
